A cause page and a CrowdRaiser page serve different fundraising purposes on GiveNow. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right approach for your fundraising goals.
Cause page
- Created by: Registered organisation users (administrators).
- Managed in: OrgHQ, by the organisation.
- Setup time: Takes one to two business days, as the nominated bank account must be registered with our payment partner.
- Purpose: A cause is your organisation's own fundraising page. You have full control over the content, donation form settings, and branding.
Organisations on the Pro plan can set up multiple causes for different purposes — for example, one cause can serve as a general appeal while others target specific fundraising goals. To create a cause, see How do I list a new cause?
CrowdRaiser page
- Created by: Anyone, including supporters and organisation users.
- Managed in: MyGiving, by the person who created it.
- Setup time: Goes live instantly after the creator verifies their email.
- Purpose: A CrowdRaiser is a peer-to-peer fundraising page that a supporter creates to raise money on behalf of one of your causes. All donations to the CrowdRaiser go directly to the linked cause.
Because CrowdRaisers are designed to be created and managed by supporters, they are not editable via OrgHQ. The supporter manages their CrowdRaiser page through their own MyGiving account. For more on creating a CrowdRaiser, see How do I create a CrowdRaiser to fundraise for an organisation?
An example
Joe loves your organisation, so they create a CrowdRaiser to support one of your causes (for example, "Primary Projects") and ask their friends to donate. They name their CrowdRaiser "Joe runs a marathon to raise money for Primary Projects!" All donations to the CrowdRaiser go directly to supporting the cause, and donation receipts reference the cause name rather than the CrowdRaiser name.
Key similarities
Donations made through both cause and CrowdRaiser pages are processed securely on the GiveNow website. Funds are transferred to the organisation's nominated bank account during the regular monthly remittance cycle.
Note: The CrowdRaiser feature is available only to organisations on the Basic and Pro plans. See GiveNow plans.
