No, you don’t need Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status to register with GiveNow. We accept both DGR and non-DGR organisations, provided they can demonstrate they operate as a not-for-profit and have appropriate governance structures in place.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) manages the list of organisations with DGR status, which allows donors to claim their gifts as tax-deductible. DGRs are either:
- Endorsed by the ATO as they fall within a general DGR category, or
- Listed by name in the tax law (in exceptional cases).
While organisations with DGR status meet specific legal definitions and are undoubtedly worthy of donor generosity, we recognise that many other not-for-profit organisations without DGR endorsement are just as deserving. These organisations may not fall under the strict legal definitions set by legislation, but they still play an important role in their communities.
GiveNow supports the registration of all Australian not-for-profit organisations, whether or not they have DGR status. However, it’s important to note that international credit card schemes apply different transaction fees to organisations without DGR status.
