Tips for running a successful regular donation campaign
-
Focus on monthly giving
Monthly donations dominate in Australia, making up around 80% of all regular giving. This is the option most donors expect to see. You can create a campaign that only accepts regular donations by disabling “One-off”, or restrict to monthly gifts by turning off other frequencies.
-
Match suggested amounts to impact
Set donation amounts that connect directly to outcomes, e.g. “$50/month provides family meals” or “$100/month funds new program resources.”
-
Plan with donor patterns in mind
Based on GiveNow data:
- Average regular donor commitment: 22 months
- Average monthly donation: $49.50 (steady at ~$50 for 5 years) Use these figures to guide your asks and forecast income.
-
Promote bank debit payments
Regular donors can pay by bank account or credit card. Bank debits mean no transaction fees for your organisation — increasing the value of each gift.
-
Care for your regular donors
Nearly 40% of commitments end after three consecutive failed payments. Monitor your regular donor list in OrgHQ and follow up quickly if a payment fails.
Edit donation frequencies
- Log in to OrgHQ.
- Go to Manage causes, under Cause & donations in the left-hand menu.
-
Select Edit for the cause to you want to update.
- Go to the Donation form tab and locate Donation frequency options under Amount.
- Select the frequencies you want to offer.
- To keep your changes and continue editing the cause, select Save. When you have finished editing all fields, select Save & Close.
Examples of campaigns setups
-
Simple monthly giving: Offer only monthly donations with a few suggested amounts.
Mixed frequency: Include multiple regular donation options, with monthly set as the default.
Impact-focused: Add short descriptions to suggested amounts, highlighting the impact of each gift.
