QR codes are one of the easiest ways to turn a physical moment into a digital donation. Every cause, event, and membership on GiveNow has one — here is how to get the most out of them.
1. Use them everywhere you would have used a URL — and places you could not.
QR codes work anywhere a phone camera can reach. Think posters, banners, flyers, business cards, direct mail, event signage, collection buckets, volunteer t-shirts, window displays, and even funeral booklets for memorial donations. If someone can see it, they can scan it.
2. Replace card payment machines at events.
A QR code on a banner or table card lets donors give contactlessly without your organisation needing to hire, set up, or manage a card payment terminal. Lower cost, less hassle, and donors complete the transaction on their own phone.
3. Always include a short call-to-action next to the code.
A QR code on its own does not tell people what it does. Add a line like "Scan to donate" or "Scan to buy tickets" so people know what to expect before they open their camera.
4. Make sure the code is big enough to scan.
A good rule of thumb: the QR code should be at least 3 cm × 3 cm for handheld materials like flyers or business cards, and larger for posters or banners that people will scan from a distance.
5. Test the code before you print.
Scan it yourself on a couple of different phones to make sure it loads the correct page. If you have recently changed your cause URL, you may need to regenerate your QR code first.
